Understanding the different parameters

Power

The amount of horse power the vehicle has.

Weight

The vehicle weight in KG.

What is the power-to-weight ratio?

The power-to-weight ratio is the amount of power a vehicle has in relation to it's weight.

A vehicle with a higher power-to-weight ratio is likely to accelerate faster than a vehicle with a lower ratio. This is often why you find motorsports enthusiasts going through the process of weight removal on their cars.

This therefore provides us a simple, rudimentary method of comparing how vehicles might fair with each other.

How to calculate the power-to-weight ratio

The formula to calculate an the power-to-weight ratio can be seen below, this is what we use in the calculator above.

Power per 1000KG = (HP / Weight in KG) × 1000
