Hidden away in Carmarthenshire back roads, Pembrey Circuit is perhaps Welsh motor sport's crowning jewel. A M4 west-bound drive may involve some patience, and possibly some rain - but the reward is a track that combines thrilling layout with welcoming ambience. Simply accessible from junction 48, it's well signposted from Llanelli along the A4138 and A484 and takes you through charming countryside and the odd speed camera.
As the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) bought a 50-year lease in 1990, Pembrey has become a center of motorsport. Formula 1 machinery has been tested on the circuit by Williams, Benetton, and BARC teams, taking advantage of its unique configuration and challenging corners.
Pembrey's circuit is a rapid, sweeping outer half and a more sedate, technical inner half, offering a great drive. The principal challenges on the circuit are the Brooklands Hairpin, where precision and restraint are necessary, and the sweeping Honda Curve, a rapid right-hander capable of making or breaking a lap. The Diben left-hander brings an additional challenge, keeping drivers focused as they search for the perfect line.
Pembrey is not just for competition racers. The circuit also offers driving days, test days and track days, and runs race meetings which attract supporters from near and far. With meeting rooms and hospitality suites, Pembrey is also a venue of choice for business events, combining business with the thrill of motor sport.
Despite its often wet and windy weather, Pembrey’s appeal lies in its combination of exciting track design, rich history, and friendly atmosphere. Whether you’re a driver chasing the ultimate lap time, a spectator soaking up the action, or a team testing the limits of your machine, Pembrey Circuit offers an experience that’s as challenging as it is rewarding.
